LASER stands for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser is a painless procedure where there is minimized bleeding and swelling of the soft tissues. It preserves more healthy tooth during cavity removal. Use of laser has been proved to be effective in increasing efficiency, specificity, ease, cost and comfort of the dental treatment. Laser is used for caries prevention, bleaching, restorative removal and curing, cavity preparation, dentinal hypersensitivity, growth modulation and for diagnostic purposes. Other uses include wound healing, removal of overgrown tissue covering the impacted or partially erupted tooth and in removal of malignant and herpetic lesions. Lasers are also used to reshape the gums and remove the bacteria during root canal procedure.
